metal vs plastic toe taps

For those of you that do use toe/heel taps, which do you prefer?

No tap on the heel, it can lead to back problem; inserted metal toes as they make me feel more "harmable".

If I were to have taps, they'd be on the toes, in steel and be flush.

Nothing looks cheaper than hammered in plastic taps.

Afficiandos and purists will insist on metal.
