Metal toe tap but not metal heel?

Why people/shoe makers don’t use flush metal heels? Meermin is the only one I see that use some metal heels on their shoes. Not the entire heel is made by metal, only outer edge made with flush metal taps just like toes. I think metal heel is more functional than toe taps

Do you have metal heel plates on any of your shoes? Lots of downsides: noisy, can damage wood floors, very slippery. Rubber heel lifts are easily replaced.

They're very clicky. I had one pair with metal taps on heels and toe, and they were just too noisy. And as mentioned above, they can get slippery. It's no big deal to replace the heels, or at least the rubber part. Much more expensive to replace the whole sole, when it's too worn down in the front.

It depends on how often you need to replace them. Even though the rubber heel is not worn that much, still functional, it looks slant and not appealing to my eye. In my opinion it will only take 30-50 wears for the heels to develop noticeable wears, that means I need to replace all my heels every year assuming I have 10 pairs of shoes. Or you can just live with it, but looks annoying

IMO the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages. But if you want them, get them.

A well-regarded (in these fora) bespoke shoemaker told me the reason for metal toe taps is to minimize damage to the front of the sole caused by escalators. Clearly there's less of a need, at least in his view, for metal heels.

I honestly think if you try them you won't like them. Very slippery; downright dangerously so in fact!
