Hey guys, I need a new bag for school coming up and usually I just hold my folder and my books together with no bag and it sucks. I was looking to get a messenger bag/satchel of some sort. I really like the ones with brown leather, the light color ones..something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....92&rd=1 or even something like this.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....82&rd=1 Don't even know if its real or not. I would buy a fake Vuitton bag if it was like $20 but I doubt it. Anyways, what are you guys carrying now?

I really like that first one, though it seems quite pricey. You should ask the seller what the reserve price is. I've never heard of the company. J. Crew has a nice canvas messenger in a plaid pattern that I really like. Also, Jack Spade has numerous variations and they are affordable.

Also, if you are in NYC, there is a place on Great Jones St. (3rd St.) called Village Tannery. They will custom make for you a bag (they also have premade ones). They aren't cheap (about 200-300 dollars), but the quality is top notch, and they are guaranteed for life.

Ditto. I love my Jack Spade canvas field bag, but wish it had just about 2" extra space in depth and width so I could have a little more wiggle room for my stuff, but I still feel that this bag was designed for exactly what I carry and how I use it. I carried a Timbuk2 bag for a while and loved it. I still have it and use it for larger, heavier loads. They are designed for bicycle messengers so the aesthetic is more utilitarian and they come in a large variety of sizes and color combinations. You can customize your own online at http://www.timbuk2.com and lots of retailers sell them as well. They last forever and are great for students.

Rawlings is a sports equipment company, best known for making baseball gloves.

Based on the reputation they have earned for themselves as a sporting goods manufacturer, I would have no reason to doubt that this item would be of solid quality.

Yeah I like the look of that rawlings bag. What do you guys think about getting the louis vuitton bag? Fake or real either way...The Jack Spade ones are cool, but i'd rather have a leather bag.

I'll tag onto this thread...I am going to start a consulting job soon and need a bag for work. Any recommendations? Nothing huge, just something to put my crackers in.

(seinfeld joke..) Seriously though, I was thinking just a plain black messenger bag. Or is that not dressy enough?

I think that the Louis Vuitton bag might not be as durable since the main part isnt leather but instead its canvas. The only thing that is leather might be some parts of the strap and the trimming. But if you decide for the Louis Vuitton, don't get a fake. The quality of a fake wouldn't last you for strenous book carrying throughour the school year.

briggs and riley and tumi have great messanger bags, they will last you your whole life, and possibly longer. tumi look nicer, and come in very good leather, but are more expensive.

Buying fake stuff is just so lame.

True. The Louis Vuitton is a coated canvas. Of course Vuitton makes uther bags that are leather (and much nicer in my opinion), but they'll be harder to find at less than retail. Once again, have you found out what the reserve is on the Rawlings bag?

I do really like the look of that Rawlings bag. Didn't know they made bags; logical, I suppose. I'm sure the leather will age very nicely. I looked around for them retail, it worries me a little that the ebay guy has the same pic as the commercial site... Buying fake stuff is often lame, but the real stuff is often just as lame. I'd rather have that rawlings bag than a real or fake LV coated canvas bag plastered with logos.

"Officer. That guys stole my European carry-all."

"You mean purse?"

"Yes, a purse. I carry a purse."

Hahaha.
