messenger bag / briefcase with straps without buckles

I've been on the hunt for the perfect messenger bag for myself. Unfortunately, the two I've seen that have really caught my eye have been a bit out of my price range. Both bags have a unique design feature in that the front flap is secured when closed with strap closure, but the straps are not buckled. I like the minimalist look this gives bags...however, I'm struggling to find more bags with this.

The two bags I know of with this look are the Hermes Steve and a RLPL messenger bag I saw at the mansion on madison (was not able to find it online). I think the Hermes bag is $6k+ and the RLPL one was $3k.

How does it stay secured? Is the strap just thicker than the metal loop? I've seen some like this but with a handle on top too and don't quite understand how it works without the buckle.
