I realize this thread may make me sound like a crazy person, but I am going to post it anyways.

For some reason I have these weird mental blocks that I don't like foods regardless if I have tried them or not. Sushi for example, I just had a piece of sushi and while I think I could get used to the taste for some reason it just makes me gag because I have always told myself I don't like sushi.

Anyone have any tips for getting over this notion in my head that I dislike certain foods? Have I lost my marbles?

I can't do fishy stuff, I'll eat sushi but stick to the meatier ones rather than going crazt on uni or ikura. Dislike eating most cooked fish and seafoods. I don't know what happened exactly, but I grew up on the sea in Australia, had great fish and liked it, but then later in life I moved to the midwest US and had to eat school cafeteria fish burgers - I'm thinking a bad experience with one ruined seafood for me forever. =\\
I don't know how to get back into eating seafood, because I'd really like to. I can eat all kinds of things otherwise.

Tomatoes. I'm not sure why. I know I love the smell, and I really want to enjoy the taste, but the second I start eating one, I just can't handle it.

i always am able to eat and enjoy thing ii normally 'dislike' when im super baked. after eating the food high a few times i learn to enjoy it sober. ive used this technique to learn to like salad, raw vegetables and strong cheeses. fish is next on the list

Meringue, flan, and desserts with similar consistency. I also can't eat most foods with mushy fillings such as jelly filled donuts and pastries.

+2 to okra.

Pickles until fairly recently.. Not all pickled food, just pickled cucumbers. I still can't nor do I have a desire to take a big bite of pickle but I've come around slightly once I realized how great thinly sliced pickles taste on pork sandwiches of all sorts. BBQ pulled pork and cubanos aren't the same without a little hint of them.

Cheese. Something about the smell is nauseating to me.
