I'm just curious to know which retailer people like more and why. I dont really go to either that much but have bought a few things from Mens Warehouse.

It saddens me when the name is misspelled.

You're not going to find many people on here who would advocate going to either, but if push came to shove, I'd go with Jos A Bank.

I vote Jos A Bank only because their commercials are less annoying. The "You're gonna like the way you look" guy annoys the **** out of me.

I'd never buy anything from either one, of course.

Come on people, MW is bad even by non-SF standards.

At least JAB is passable at times.

everyone here seems to bash these places pretty hard, but what is so bad about them? I'm at a time where I need to get a few sets of clothing in my closet to build upon. An item in particular I need is a leather jacket. What's the harm in getting a nice jacket and two free suits (shirts, coats) along the way?

People bash them because this site is for clothing aficionados. You wouldn't go on exotic car discussion web-sites expect to get a lot of love for a Honda Civic Si would you?

Point taken. But a car enthusiast wouldn't recommend a Bently to a new driver. Along those lines, they wouldn't recommend a crappy Honda Civic. They would help steer a beginner to something that will suit them for where they're at. As that person progresses, they will grow and develop tastes by following the path of others.

For instance, I really want to build my closet, but there's no way I can start throwing hundreds of dollars around for single items. I'd like to do that after I have something to work with. Kind of the idea of "cycling" out the worst thing in the closet as you get something newer (and better)
