Men's Warehouse Alterations any insight?

I see alot of people say this store is terrible, but is the alteration service bad to? Needed to get seat and crotch altered on my dress pants, would suck to take it there and get ruined.

I have had mixed results. Like all chain store tailors, they run the gammut. I was living in a town I didn't know (short, temporary job), and I took a suit I had in to be altered, and when I went to pick it up, it wasn't done.

Bare in mind, they charge you a surcharge on now MW clothing. It is something like $5/alteration. So a $15-20 job could easily cost you $25-30.

Never tried them, but just conceptually it seems that any tailor worth their salt would quickly find other employment.

This is me talking purely out of ****** here but...

...I can't imagine M-W does any alterations on-site. They probably contract with local dry cleaning and tailoring shops to send some business their way. M-W employees probably measure and chalk the clothing and then it gets sent out.

That's sheer conjecture, but even if they are on-site, my guess is that they're

A) Not very good
B) Highly variable at best.

It's different in each store, I knew one who had a lady in the back doing alterations who was actually very skilled and knowledgable... in this economy I'd think there'd be lots of skilled alterationists taking any job they can find.

I've used them on stuff purchased from there (pre-SF, of course!). Mine had a seamstress in the back, so they had a fairly quick turn around. I'm not sure I'd trust anything complicated to them, but they've done a fine job adjusting the seat and waist of my pants as my weight has fluctuated.

I worked there as a sales guy for about 9 months in 2010. They most definitely did all alterations on site. The tailors I worked with at my store were actually quite talented, and I trusted some of my own pieces to them on several occasions. One of them would do MTM shirts for another, very small shop as a side gig, also with good results. They would often re-cut the really cheap stuff for our broke-but-fit-concious customers and it would come out looking pretty fantastic for a 179.00 or whatever suit.

My store had a very "SF-approved" manager, so he reportedly made sure we had the best tailors in our store that we could find, as we did a lot of volume. At other locations there were most certainly some decidedly not-so-good tailors. It depends.
