Ugh. It's a sports issue. I realize I'm in the minority on this, but I just don't care. I don't get MV, GQ, or any other magazine to read about sports. Sure, MV ups the ante by talking about polo and cigarette boat racing. Who cares?

Blech.

b, had to vent.

yeah. I picked it up in thae airport and intentionally left it behind on the plane. Only thing I read was the cigarette boat thing, but I flipped through every page. The buckshot brogues they showed are cool, but StyleForum had those months ago.

I am with you Bob. I got it in the mail yesterday. Dissapointing. But I have not actually looked through it all the way, maybe I am wrong.

I was incredibly disappointed. I buy MV primarily for the pictures (the articles are usually just okay) and one of my favorite things about it were the lusciously photographed ads (Brioni, Berluti, Lobb, Cucinelli, etc.) There are exactly three clothing ads in this issue. That painfully fashionable French swimsuit company, some incredibly ****** Hollywood poser boots, and some unexceptional jeans. That's it.

Add that to a bunch of crap about triathaletes and polo, and a seemingly endless series of shots of Kiefer Bauer failing to pull off what I think must be every piece RRL has ever made, and you have a volume that would be supbar for GQ on a bad day, much less MV.

Other than my subscription to Kendo World, this is the only magazine I get. GQ, Details, et al are incredibly unappealing to me. I am with you Edward Appleby on the ads

I'm sick to death of theme issues already. Esquire seems to be doing them constantly. But I especially don't care about sports-themed issues. Didn't GQ just do one of these a few months ago?

Maybe Men's Vogue is trying to reach out to guys who are too embarassed to be seen reading a publication called "Men's Vogue."

Although I think Doc's assessment is correct, it is indeed a very foolish direction for MV to go in. The only thing that distinguishes MV from GQ, Esquire, Details, etc. is its focus on clothes. Remove that, and how many men are going to choose a magazine identical to GQ that has "Vogue" in the name?

damn....i thought the same thing, after buying the issue at the airport.

Here are the top articles (with photos, of course) i'd like to see in mens vogue magazine-- hell, i'd gladly volunteer to research and write all of them, just to read them and see some great photos in the articles.

+ What makes a pair of John Lobb shoes special? (the first of a series, followed by Edward Green, Berluti, Ferragamo Tramezza, etc., and Lattanzi as a finale)

+ The Bespoke Suit (written and photographed in four parts, over four sequential magazine issues. author visits a bespoke tailor with photographer)

+ The Best Ready to Wear Suits (details on the manufacture in the factory, photos of sillouettes offered, stitching, etc.)-- Kiton. [first in a long series, followed by Attolini, Brioni, Borrelli, Ralph Lauren Purple Label, etc.)

+ Cufflinks of the month, and where to purchase them (focusing on double-sided links, of course)

+ And God created Woman...(two page spread of a gorgeous woman, maybe wearing a man's dress shirt or lingerie. series would begin with Veronica Zemanova)

+ Style (feature of suits and sportcoats photographed on location, in places like Milan, NYC, Chicago, LA, Paris, etc. probably focusing on the more widely available names, since the big-hitters would be covered in the suits article above)

+ The Dandy (one page article, focusing on one article of dandy-ism. series would begin with braces, followed by the fedora, pocketsquare, seersucker, etc.-- all things that although considered slightly dandified, can still find a role in one's daily wardrobe)

now THAT is a magazine worth buying/ reading!!!

As others mentioned before, the latest MV issue is disappointing. The first issue was the best and from there down, down...
Anyways, in this issue, I noticed for the first time the Armani ad about his newly launched custom program. Does anyone have first hand experience with it?

I haven't even finished reading the last issue yet it was so disappointing. Guess it's time to cast around for another magazine to read.

I agree with the sentiments that the first issue showed promise but it has been downhill from there. I don't think I'll bother with it anymore.

I am still trying to find a copy of "Classic Style." My local B&N has yet to get it in. I gather more will be on sale in a month or so.

+1 Terrific list. I hope somebody is taking notes out there.
