I am sure this has been regurgigated several times..but is there a guide/previous post for where to shop for a reasonably priced suit - somewhat stylish - made to look for Wall Street.

I live in NY and any suggestions on where to shop will be extremely welcome.

Thanks

Do you have any idea on the timing of these sales?

Thanks

If by Wall Street you mean conservative and business-like, for interviews and such:

Brooks Brothers: conservative suits of generally good quality, higher priced suits here (900-1700) are much better. Several stores around NYC, good for researching office-wear in general.

Polo Ralph Lauren: 72nd st and madison (I think) is the flagship store. Many, many suits to try on. Blue label suits (marked Polo) italian-made and in general more stylish than Brooks, while still being fairly conservative. Black label is a slim, more fashiony cut that people. Polo suits are pretty expensive (1100-1700), but I've yet to find suits comparable in price that fit me better.

Bloomingdales: a good selection of Canali and sometimes Polo, often on 30% off.

Saks 5th Ave, Bergdorf Goodman: Great to try on better suits so you can check out the fit for later bargain hunting.

Discount stores: Filene's Basement (several in NYC) and Century 21 (near WTC) are very popular with bargain hunters. You have to know what you're doing, but these are usually good places to find 1000-3000 suits for around 40% off. Rarely will you find the most basic or versatile fabrics (solid charcoal and navy) in the high quality brands. Good brands commonly found at are Corneliani, Ermenegildo Zegna, Oxxford, Vestimenta, Belvest, Zegna.

Once you know precisely what you want, you can check out Sierratradingpost.com, which may have a Belvest, Corneliani, Gianluca, or Isaia that's perfect for your application. I will say, however, that STP carries a lot of patterns (big pinstripes, colored pinstripes, checks, etc) that will stick out in a conservative office.
