Actually quite competitively priced (40,000 JPY, so ~430 USD), what's sales tax in Japan? If it's high, export oversea (which I assume sales tax can be deducted) would probably be even better deal.

Taxes in Japan are famously low. Sales tax is at 5%.

I remember they did a dismantling on the Sanyo shoes in their latest issue.


Not sure if I've seen that one, but Sanyo Yamacho's better models are made by Central Shoes. Cheaper ones (not on the article) are made in China.

They used to have uber high end handsewn welted models (¥150K~¥260K) made by Seki Nobuyoshi. Since Seki retired 2 years ago, I guess Sanyo is looking for Otsuka to make their high end shoes (like the boots on the article)
