I'm taking the family to the Mendocino/Ft. Bragg area over Thanksgiving. This will be the first time we've ever been away from home (or someone else's home) for Thanksgiving dinner. Any recommendations/ideas for a good place to have Thanksgiving dinner?

love that area and that's a nice time to be there (if you like cool, gray, windy ... which i actually do quite a bit). In Fort Bragg there's a pretty good place called Mendo Bistro. in the town of Mendo, probably the best place is cafe beaujolais. the mccallum house is OK, too. depending on where you're staying, a lot of the inns/restauants, etc. in the area have decent to good kitchens. Little River Inn, Albion River Inn are particularly good.

Thanks for the replies. I've done a bit of research online and it looks like Beaujolais has a Thanksgiving special. I may call and see if I can get reservations. Hopefully I'm not too late--I dunno how early these kinds of things tend to fill up. I'll check out the other recommendations as well--keep 'em coming!

foodguy: I do love the cold gray weather. We're looking forward to doing some hiking and just enjoying a few days away from home. I'm a big fan of the northern CA coast--I don't get up that way often enough.

Okay. We got reservations at Cafe Beaujolais. My wife gave them a call and said they were really nice and accommodating--very down-to-earth.

Thanks for all the recommendations! We'll be there a few days so we may have to hit up a few of the others you mentioned. Then I will probably have to come home and sell one of my kidneys to pay for my gastronomic excess.

It's not at all formal and as you said very friendly - Mendocino is so laid back it is basically horizontal.

Yeah, that's part of what we love about the place. I'm looking forward to a few days of decompression.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
