I only experience headaches if my ponytail is too tight. I became accustomed to the heavier weight of my hair.
What do you mean with "clamping it at the back for a short hair effect"?

I pull it back, twirl it and wrap it around itself like in this photo ^ (not my photo), then use a hair fork or clamp. I'll try pulling it less tightly. My hair is very fair so it is hard to keep in place.

Isn't that a sort of bun?

Lets see if this can be resurrected from the grave.

I have long hair (at present) down to the bottom of my collar.I had a layer cut which it started out from in summer then seeing winter (was) is coming just let it grow. I’m finding that their are a lot of similar silver foxes out their with long, below collar shoulder length hair. I did have a pony tail back in 88-90 but a friends wife said I looked as if I was in advertising so off to the barbers for a short back and sides.

Only problem I find is that (sigh) my hair now is not as thick as it used to be.

As for dressing well, being semi retired its mainly smart casual, come winter I spend it in cor-du-roy trousers, oxford shirt and this year flannelette shirts, jumpers a selection of parkers, peacoat and field coats and brogues. A variation on the 1930’s English academic look sans elbow patches signifying casual, stylish and opinionated and able to back it up. ?

I’ve seen a few younger men, thirty somethings with long hair, pony tails and down past the shoulders wearing conservative business dress does look odd to my sensibilities. However...if done tastefully WGAF what the length of someones hair is.

A.C.Grayling who I saw speak at a writers festival a couple of years ago did look ok, not like this but more of a reformed protestant preacher. Top button done up sans tie and all in black. But do you think I can find that photo.

However decision time is looming, personally if the heat of the European summer is a sign of the coming OZ summer then I feel I end up getting it shorn off.

As with most style issues the modern gentleman faces it boils down to what sort of individual look you want to cultivate and project to the world. And how your appearance is accentuated, commodified and displayed. Does it say who your are? Will long hair help you make that statement of selfhood amongst coworkers, peers and the general public. Or is all the long hair I’m seeing just another cyclic aberration from the norm, mind you seeing so many men my age with long hair at present I wonder what exactly is it about.

Hmmm, I am thinking the main reason I don't cut my hair short is it just doesn't feel right to me. I don't grow my hair long enough to be a "statement" and a lot of the times, I just gel it and comb it out of my face anyway.. That said, I don't think I've ever really worn my hair short, but then again, I don't really consider my hair "long" by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe "long enough"?
