i've got it on tivo because our tv critic raved about it. i've watched a couple of episodes and really like it. and that's someone who ran screaming from the room whenever "everyone loves raymond" or whatever it was called came on. romano is actually a good actor in this ... that good-guy likability kind of undercut by a really seriously f*ed up gambling habit, that is pretty realistically portrayed (in my limited experience). it's not at all schmaltzy and nicely bittersweet.

Great end to the finale for Joe last night. Terry is a dumbass and gotta feel awful for Owen the way his dad treats him.

This sounds disturbingly like Hot In Cleveland, a show the Mrs. watches about, ahem, (accomplished) Women of a Certain Age who left L.A. for Paris but wound up in Cleveland, and liking it there. I try to avoid it as best I can but when she watches it in bed on her laptop, it's hard to not fap to notice Betty White

ive been wanting to see it...ads look funny. Sounds like its pretty boring though...guess that saves 30 minutes of my life that COULD be spent masturbating.

Have not watched last night's yet (TiVo) but am looking forward to it.

This series continues to entertain. I think FG was correct (over a year ago!) about the fatally flawed nature of not only the Ramano character but the other two as well.

Owen needs to stop calling his father "Daddy." That totally sets the paradigm for everything in that relationship, IMO.

OK. 13 months after this threak started, this is still the only TV show I TIVO. Don't know if it's all that great, or if it just speaks to me because they are all turning 50 and I will turn 50 in a couple of months. In many ways it's like watching your life on TV. I'm not certain I can be really objective about how good it is.

The premise of 3 good friends who meet regularly for lunch...I have a group of 5 close friends who have been meeting once a week for breakfast for the past 15 years. Of the 5 of us, three are divorced/divorcing, one nearly did (but has repaired things and now seems pretty happy) and one is still happily married. Three of the five of us turn 50 this year. One is a couple of years older and one is 45...so we're all in that age range.

A lot of the issues in the show are pretty universal so it's pretty easy to identify with them if you are of that age.

I really don't watch all that much TV anymore, but really have enjoyed this show.

i'm still watching it too. in fact, like mark, i think it's about the only regular series i tivo (no, wait, house-hunters international and 30 rock). i like that the characters ring true. it's not that artificially heightened sitcom reality where people are popping one-liners every 30 seconds.

+1. The situations, dialog and characters all seem very rooted in reality.

The dealership: does it fold? For me, this is probably the biggest bit of suspense in the story line outside of the constant thought a gambling relapse happens.

So apparently they've just announced that they are cancelling the show. This just got posted on their Facebook page:

TNT has been proud to be a part of Men of a Certain Age for two seasons. While the show has featured great storytelling and performances, the audience simply hasn't built to the point where we can continue the series. This was an extremely difficult decision for us. We wish Ray Romano, Mike Royce and the terrific cast and crew the very best and look forward to exploring new programming possibilities in the future.

Damn. I liked it. Very low key, and it was a perfect serious role for Romano.
