Anyone saw the broadcast and would like to make some comments?

I mean I feel like even though the Hollywood Awards shows are usually infamous for some of their atrociously dressed guests the globes have definitely been improving on the standard of men's black tie.. There were tons of tight fits in the past years as well as ties, and you know.. Christian Bale in black on black on black

Still a lot of notch lapels though[IMG][IMG]

And of course you can't have an award show without at least one guy forgetting to hem the trousers. Guess after crawling 200 miles and
    killing Tom Hardy
Leo just doesn't care any more.

    Hanks is always good.

I did see more wider lapels, which is a nice break from the usual

True, still not quite sure how I feel about the wide shawl lapel on Jason Statham though. Perhaps it's the length and how he's showing a bit of shirt or maybe it's the colour. Either way the outfit seemed a bit off for me [IMG]

I like the width, just not the strong taper at the end, needs to be more gradual?

Liev Schreiber looks like a wimp in that tight-shouldered little jacket.

Its the mini lapels that make the chest area look so small - less of a V and more of l l

A man of that stature should really not be wearing something that's meant to be on teenagers with nothing but bones... if he insists on wearing a tie which he really shouldn't, should have gone with spread collar as well seeing how he's so damn tall

Most of the actors are dressed by Female stylists.
Many of these woman Have no clue.
I have worked with a number of these types.

sometimes the outfits are brought to the hotel room prior to the awards.
good chance there is no tailor, or the outfits might have to go back to the designer.

Men are wearing bow ties again,
but i have seen too many plain white shirts with buttons.
as well as tux shirts, with the cheap rental stud sets.

Interesting point, never knew the outfits might actually have to go back to the designer.. that's kinda lame and also never knew there are stylists, regardless of genders who would actualy have no knowledge of black tie attires.

With buttons and shirts though I've honestly just given up and try not to look at them...

Honestly, even if no tailor or you have to return it, I'm sure you could pin it/do something to hide/tailor it (they aren't running around so it wouldn't move too much), they have to know it looks crappy with 6in extra in the leg

Agreed. Tom Hanks did look good. Interesting studs on his shirt, too. I thought, also, that the two male presenters in the red carpet show prior to the awards show looked okay (Matt Lauer and some other guy).

    I noticed the following trends:

    1. The black four-in-hand necktie has diminished. Most men now wear bow ties.

    2. Black is back in full force. With the exception of "The Rock's" maroon smoking jacket and a couple of white dinner coats, men are wearing black dinner suits.

    3. Although there were a couple of men in white dinner coats, that trend seems to be on the wane. It is a totally inappropriate look for a formal event in January.

    3. I noticed a couple of people, such Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, wearing smoking jackets in velvet. It is another inappropriate look for a formal, public event. It is more suited to a formal evening at a home dinner party or a private party thrown at the club.

I am actually not entirely sure what the 'dress code' is supposed to be, there is such a variety of looks

Even though not a fan of him...Matt Lauer probably had the best/classic look in my quick viewing.
