1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

Get a VPN. It's like a private network sourced from abroad. I don't know if that's a short term remedy though. Personally, I am on a proxy mailing list and I get updated proxy servers every morning which is enough for me to glance at my facebook notifications through the easily loaded m.facebook.com, even though it can't load much more beyond the mobile site.

This will get you onto a mobile version of FB.

    www.vtunnel.com

This will get you onto youtube, etc.

Let me know if your travels bring you to Shanghai and you need some pointers.

Could I get on a proxy mailing list as well?

Neither of those links work. I'm in Beijing.

Nope. Pretty much all foreign social networking sites are censored. Hell, I even have trouble signing in to my gmail sometimes and gchat doesn't work for me about 80% of the time. Other instant messengers are fine though. Like they said though, facebook mobile or whatever seems ok.

Most blackberries connect through foreign servers, so you should be able to get on to Facebook through your device. If you have one...

This internet ban is ridiculous. If you google something questionable your google freezes up.

Your ip has been logged and secret police will probably kick down your door in the middle of the night and drag you off to jail.

Haha, it was much worse before they cancelled google.cn and started redirecting to the HK servers. Google didn't really freeze up as much, but the search results it provided were absolutely worthless for anything. Gmail and gchat worked better before though.

Sure you can't live without playing Farmville for a few weeks? If you really must have FB undoblock.com will get you the mobile site.

What VPN are you using? I paid for a month of SwitchVPN before I left for China but now that I'm here it looks like it's blocked in China, can't get on.
