Ok so I was doing some research.
Most LM suede that meermin uses is
Janus Calf Suede http://www.cfstead.com/content/products/januscalf.htm
Which is good 1.4-1.6mm thick

But to really go epic we could get:

Which is 2.0 - 2.4 thick
They even have a nice copperish color called "red dirt"

This is probably the nicest suede that humans can buy. And I would like to see if Pepe can source it.

Would you guys be on board for this. Even if their is a upcharge? (I really think it will be worth it in the over all life of our shoes.)

Hell this suede may even make the carmina guys blush

I have also asked Pepe:

I wanted to inquire as to if we could source a slightly different suede version.

I have read that Meermin is using Janus calfskin for normal LM suede.

Would it be possible to source Janus Butt calfskin for this MTO. This sude looks to be much thicker with tighter fibers. This MTO is now hovering around 13 people.

For the color, red dirt looks good. But not sure if it will be too much red and how far off is the red dirt to the copper suede?

Truthfully I bet "copper suede" is just rebranded red dirt by meermin. But no certainty there.

Actually i take that back it may be a bit more red. But either way the upgrade in leather quality will be more than worth it to me

I am flexible about the color.
But I really would like to see if we can get this leather.
This is so much better than the normal LM suede.

These hides are pulled from the butt of the animal much like shell cordovan. The grain of the animal's leather is much much tighter there.
leading to more even suede and much longer lasting leather.

If Pepe shoots us down then we can go back to the regular reverse calf but I really do think this is worth doing. This high quality suede will make the shoes last much longer and look nicer the whole time.

Here is an example of how much stronger butt leather is under an microscope:

This is pic is for shell cordovan but the principal still applies with calf skin leathers. That CL layer is very strong.
