Yeah I didn't have this issue with my Carminas or Aldens either, granted the Alden shell is a lot softer and the Carminas had a much higher shaft that didn't rub against the side of my ankle. Meermin does have a reputation for hard break-ins but I didn't think it also applied to the shells.

Lacing it looser makes it chafe more, kinda like how loose shoes give you heel slip which leads to blisters.
In chafing issues with the heel; most often that means either it’s a, this last is too big in the heel for your foot, or the proper size for this last for your foot was not chosen, problem

The heel is fine, I was just using it as an example to show how loosening the lacing at ankle can actually make it chafe more since it's moving around more.

I see, and very true.
For me, I have the same problem with every pair of Alden boots I own, shell, calf and suede. Since I have so many pairs of boots, due to rotation, I don’t get lots of wears. It takes forever to break those pairs in, I just put a large bandage in that area of my leg when I wear them.

Could someoe comment on the quality of Zonta's Musem calf leather that Meermin uses ?
Is it on par with what Vass uses for example (I have seen some Vass models in person) ?

I'm eyeing one of the Linea Maestro models with gold Museum calf.

I don't have any Meermin in museum calf but I do have from Carmina and they are using Zonta. I like it, looks good and feels good.

Just received my cigar cordovan plain toe service boots from the summer sale and it seems like I’ve struck the QC lottery. No apparent flaws! First time trying out a JR leather sole too and it seems great after a few walks around the house. Will take them for a walk outdoors this evening to see how they do.

For sizing, I went with TTS to brannock (10D), so UK 9E, and it seems to fit in all the right places.

I got the same, did you have any issues with chafing around the ankles?

I’ve only been going for walks around the house this far so not yet. I feel a little bit of pressure on the upper ankle but usually some ankle rotations loosens them right up.

Do you lace up all the speedhooks? And how tightly are you lacing them?

You've been very lucky to receive this. I'm in Europe and didn't see that they were selling service boots on the intl website. Should you have a pic of them, i could be nice to share.

Ugh, purchased my first Meermin, in shell. Was hesitant to buy a Chinese made boot, especially knowing about the QC issues, but fugured I would give them a chance. should have listened to myself; the boots were a mess and never should have left China or Spain. misalignment with the shafts, one are of the shaft that wasn’t even sewn onto the lower with a gap over an inch, and poor welting with what looked like two holes in the shell due to needle punctures. Boxed up and went back right away; customer service failed to respond, but no matter, they’re taking these nasty things back and will insist on a full refund
live and learn I guess

I would like to hear more from owners about sizing of unlined loafers. My hiro, Elton and ron last are quite snug to me. Should I size down for unlined RON?
