You're good to go. A man with a show fetish needs light brown, medium brown and dark brown shoes anyways. Liking the grain/country leather of the tan and the dark is a good one for navy and dark grey suits. But I'd say play with the though of owning medium brown semi brogues or quarter brogues...

Remember to size up +0.5 in the New Rey!

Appreciate the feedback guys. Going to send Meermin an email just to ask about turnaround time. Would be best if I can get them by October for RTW shoes.

I have a dark brown belt, should I also order a matching belt? You guys have a preference where you guys get the belts from (I like Trafalgar belts, soft, smooth, and nice grain texture).

If you have ordered Meermin belts, you like them?

Finally, in the same range of tones you were after tobacco/snuff, we have used a very fine and top quality suede from the italian tannery Ilcea, which I am sure you will love. The colour is very deep and the nap its very silky at touch.

    New Rey
    UK 13.5
    Snuff with purple lining
    Double rubber sole

Hell yeah! I'm thrilled and excited beyond words! These ship with the group MTO austerity boots.

Actually I was screaming for a group MTO about this months ago but go no replies... SF will soon draw you to the #menswearclown side and you will soon develop a deep affection for monks and split toes. Don't be alarmed. It is bound to happen. You will also soon realize that the shitty weather of Scotland is irrelevant and you will start owning more and more suede shoes.

But I have to say that my expectations for these monks are quite high.

Yeah if you proof it right bad weather shouldn't be a problem to suede. Monks and split toes I'll leave to thosexwho appreciate them. (Or those who think they should appreciate them) Too many desirable shoes out there to deviate into such igent carry on for me. Given that, those do look good. Be interesting to see how Rey looks in suede in your gargantuan size tho! ;)

I took receipt of a pair of the brown captoes a fortnight ago.

The colour is somewhere between the old and new pictures. It's certainly not as dark as the new pictures though.

It's also not as dark as the carmina dark brown, which is my only real reference point.

Disappointing to hear, opted for this over the aldwych as I was after the darker brown. Ah well I knew brown online is hit and miss, just have to expect to darken it manually before I can put them in the rotation. Anyway I needed to order a basic pair to get a feel for sizes/quality before considering any MTO work. Thanks for impressions though. Not sure it will help much but id be interested to see some pics if you get a chance.

Hey all, I've been looking at picking up a pair of the double monks.

I went through some of this thread but got lost pretty quick. What's the turnaround at the moment?

Also, any sizing recommendations? I'm a 10.5D in Allen Edmonds Park/Strand last.

    Thanks!

^ you should be a UK 9.5 in Hiro, Ben and Ama lasts. Forget anything below Hiro if you are a genuine US D width. I'd say get a pair of Hiro lasted monks to start with. There's really no telling if they will be perfect or slightly too snug for you. The only way to know is to try them on.

If I was you I'd get them in both UK 9.5 and 10 and then return the pair that doesn't fit. Ofc if you're from the US of A it's a hassle with the returns and also painstaking expensive.

Comments based on personal experience from the AE 5-65 in B width and Meermin New Rey, Olfe and Ama.

    You sure about that Konda?

I always thought UK sizes were about one half to one full size LOWER than US sizes, not higher.

    :D

I'm tempted by some Meermins but I'm a bit leery of pulling the trigger as I'm agonizing over size. Are you clued up on sizing? Looking at a pair on the Hiro last. I have AE Leeds and McNeil in 8.5 an Players in 8 all of which fit fine. Any idea what size Meermins? I'm leaning to 8.

Well I'm a US 14 in all AEs I have (and those that I have tried) despite the last. I've never found it necessary to size down in length but instead find what the correct width is in different lasts.

So if you're a US 8.5 in MacNeil (7-97 last) then you're most likely a UK 7.5 in the Hiro. Again I'd try UK 8 as well as the Hiro is a bit more narrow than the AE 7-97 last, which is a generous last (personally could rock that in an A as well as a B). The Hiro last is for a regular instep so instep wise that should work well for you (the AE 7-97 is for regular instep as well as the Leeds in 1-511).

Before buying, remember that the Hiro is around a US C+ / US D in width.

Again, you just need to try them. The only way to know is by trial and error.
