In that case they made 2 cos size 8's there twice as well.

Edit, I think those two anomalies are women's sizes.
    Other edit, I'm wrong :(

there's clearly an error in the second sizing chart..... UK5=US6 - UK5.5=US8 - UK6=US7 - UK6.5 = US9 they've clearly broken something in writing/publishing that chart. The sizes are just completely inconsistent.

If anybody is interested, I contaced Luisa regarding shell cordovan tassel loafers, whereas she responded that they were available and the estimated waiting time is 45 days. I asked which colors are available and what the price is, presumably it is €320.

    Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding potential return but my post might be also useful as a report for quality of Meermins.

I have the shoes since about end of April (i.e.slightly more than 3 months) and wear them 2-3 times a week. I now noticed 2 serious issues that I see as a ground for returning them.

Both can be illustrated by photos and a video here:

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1qdne4qhsjyr2ps/-lvDzWx4k7?n=16874467

    1) The leather around my right ankle has gotten very soft, creating a unnatural space in that area. As a result, my right ankle is extremely loose when I walk which is very unconfortable. See the photos and the video above. I think this is dangerous, because my foot is not stable which can cause a sprained ankle.

I already wrote about this in a post here: http://www.styleforum.net/t/277707/meermin-mallorca-shoes/6120#post_6371241

    2) The top straps (probably nylon) are falling apart on both shoes, especially on the right one. Again, you can see how the threads are damaged and starting to fall apart (see the link above for more illustrations).

I emailed my complaints to Luisa, who has offered me to repair them. I am sure that the nylon straps can be repaired but I am less convinced about the stretched leather around my right ankle. Plus I've already waited 3 months for the shoes in the first place, so I am not keen on waiting again... I would prefer to just get my money back.

Honestly, I think part of the issue is that the size. When ordering, I measured myself using Allend Edmonds sizing chart and obtained size 8 US. Based on that, Luisa proposed 7,5 UK, which might be half a size too big.

What do you think? I would appreciate your comments on this.

I think they may be half a size too big, possibly explaining the first fault and sadly not something you can blame Meermin for as it's not their responsibility that you get the right size. The second is something they should repair.

With regards to the shell tassels, they are available in black and burgundy.

@Prosper0: what catch my attention is that the problem of bowing is only in one shoe, right? [IMG] I hate the converstion charts... I'm troubling with which size I should get.

@cbfn: Uhh those tassels in shell should be something really good. But I'm not sure if I should go for my first try with Meermin for a shell shoe at that price.

I have this going on in my AE double monks and brogues. I'd not say it has to do with the size, as then I'd surely have this going on on the majority of the shoes I own. Instead I've come to the following conclusions on my shoes. Might apply to yours as well...

    1. Last on heel should be 1 size smaller for an optional fit. Unfortunately these are not Aldens which would have a different width in the heel than they have on the ball.
    2. Leather is soft and construction is not as robust as on other shoes I have.
    3. Instep problem. You have a low instep and if the shoes you have are on the HIRO last, you need tongue pads. The HIRO is not the best option for low instep feet (exactly what I have going on on the AE Neumora which is on the 3-333 last despite the width being correct).

If you bought the wrong size, and wore it for three months, IMO you shouldn't get a refund... That's just the risk of ordering online, or you could have returned it right away. Not waited 3 months.

Also, not sure how loose ankle==dangerous for sprained ankle. If you half ankle problems, you need to wear high top/ankle shoes/boots (I've fractured my ankle before). Can't blame the shoe for that.

The fraying however, is a legit complaint, and should be addressed

    Thanks everyone for their responses.

    @Betelgeuse: Yes, thats exactly right

@venividivicibj, @cbfn: Guys, generally, you are of course right. I agree that would be my fault. But:

    1) As I have stated in the post (maybe not clearly enough), I prequalified my Meermin size with Luisa. She recommended size 7,5 based on my AE sizing and I obeyed that recommendation. I exchanged several emails with her before I ordered. I even came here to ask, as these Meermins were my first "proper" shoes (goodyear welted, quality leather etc.).

    2) And secondly, the shoes definitely weren't loose when I started breaking them in - at first, they felt very tight and hard. I can assure you it didnt seem like there was too much space in the shoe.

@konda: Excellent points - that describes problems I've been having almost too accurately.

Can you maybe recommend brands and lasts that overcome this problem? Preferably on a price level not too far from Meermins...(I am sure the supply is going to be limited).

Also, that's the first time I hear about different sizes for heel and "the ball". Is there a designation for this if I want to look for such shoes, specifically?

How is the length of the Hiro last relative to the other lasts and if you happen to know, the Carmina rain last?

She recommended, not forced. Every feet are different, this is not the responsibility of the seller.
