MTO allows for modified last but it takes the up charge to 150 iirc

(Sorry, posted what Ozzy said at the same time - yes, that's also what I was told; wider fittings mean the higher 150 Euro MTO charge).

I don't understand why it''s so high over here in Canada (Edmonton, Alberta, specifically). I got a pair of DM and the customs came out to $51. There's no way to fight these charges, eh?

I'll look into a proxy for future purchases, but I should probably hold off on any new shoes for a good while. :satisfied:

I'm in for the hatchgrain wholecuts on the proviso that they,
    A) Use a chisel toe last,
    B) Have a low/squeezed toe box, and
    C) Make the foot shape symmetrical

Pretty much the photo shown by Terrorsquad to highlight the leather is the perfect execution of hatch grain.

No point using a "loud" skin and dulling it by using a round toe or some brouging.

Have anyone seen Plum Museum IRL? How strong is the purple hue? It looks more as burgundy / dark red than a plum on my screen.

And make it a double monk to go full iGent...

Hatch grain is a casual printed/pressed leather more suitable for country shoes, not something to be worn proud and showcased like croc or lizard suede.

p.s., symmetrical lasts shapes are inorganic and inelegant.
p.s.s., Meermin does not have a chisel toe last. Square, yes. But not chiseled.

Sleek and narrow lasts doesn't always look better. Actually it looks dreadfully ugly if you do not possess legs of giraffe with a starving teenage boy body.

    It's all about proportions.

Got my mtos, slightly surprised they were made even though I didn't pay (though thought I did as I never got an email asking for payment). Hiro last looks better than I expected and is still reasonably sleek a la EG 202. Finishing is good, one toe tap is not on even and there's a gap (still functional right?) and some wrinkles in leather but nothing major. Also did anyone have a strong chemical smell on their shoes? Mine reek? Maybe just hot LA weather

Also had a shipping address that I wanted to change, thankfully I had not paid or they would have been sent to the wrong address as Meermin didn't reply until 4 days later.

Great advice, not just for shoe lasts, but for almost everything.

That's true, though I'm not sure who, on the thread, is saying that sleek and narrow lasts always look better.

I prefer shoes that have a slightly wider vamp that taper towards the toe-box to create a chisel/point as opposed to one that is uniformly slim. Shoes that are out of proportion are, naturally, ugly. Like suits. Like tie against lapels etc.
