That amount of duty is just plain stupid. I got hit with $36.00 here in the US and was okay with it but $137 is downright extortion. Is there anything that can be done about it?

It's probably fedex brokerage fee + duties + sales tax, sounds about right.

Actually there is a trick. What we've done before, is go to the Fed Ex location and tell them we want to clear the item ourselves. Basically you ask for the shipment manifest, and make sure you have proof of payment, and you go to the local customs office and they clear it for you, thus no brokerage. I have done it before and I will get my father to do it tomorrow. I should be only paying the $52 dollars in taxes, not $137.

Probably not what you want to hear, but goods from Spain will probably have duty on top of HST (or PST+GST depending on where you are). Depending on how rigid Customs is feeling, of course.

Right...forgot that..wow, this is hurting. Calculated it out and it will be just over $100. I should have just sent them to my cousin in Germany and saved a bit.

Awesome.

Personally I would prefer minimal finish by Meermin to preserve the original Ilcea Radica finishes so I can burnish and color myself. But guess it might not for everyone. Either way, please make sure the original Radica finish is preserved as much as possible?

Last thing I need is second rate finishes like EG, G&G, or Berluti with cream paint job.

That brings up an interesting point. For Canadians in the GTA, might it be possible to avoid some or all of these fees by sending the order to a USA address for pickup near the border? The service is already available as far as I have researched (I'm in Toronto, but have never used this service, nor purchased anything yet from Meermin). I would never agree to $137 in duties, so unless there is a workaround such as this, I may have to just forget about this value-per-dollar from Meermin.

If anyone has some insight to offer us Canadians, I'm sure we're all really interested to know if this is a possiblity.

I thought this was your personal MTO project, but great to see another group MTO come to life! I'm in for anything balmoral, wholecut or not.

Can we pls do this with a chiseled toe, similar to TG73? I assume New Ray is the closet last Meermin has for that.

Brown hatch grain in longwing blucher would look awesome I think.

Terrorsquad, These are shaping up to be outstanding. For my part, I'm happy for them to take all the time they need to make sure these get the QC they deserve. No hurry!!
(Well maybe a little bit of hurry!!)
