I understand that there is a charge, I have no problems with this. Luisa told me that it was not possible REGARDLESS of cost.

Doesn't make sense to me. Perhaps a language barrier issue?

See our email chain below. Start at the bottom.

Maybe it is a language barrier issue? I don't know. I just want to know if it's possible to get that model in the Olfe instead of Hiro.

    Dear Albert,

At this moment we don't make this model in Olfe last.

    Excuse for the inconvenience.

    Kind regards,

    Luisa

Yeah, I'd email Pepe. They should do it as an MTO I imagine

I believe that should be the correct email.

As far as overcoming the language barrier, it might not hurt to mention that you understand it would be a special order with a surcharge. I think they just keep thinking you're asking about combinations they already produce.

Thanks. Yes, I noted that in my email I just sent to Pepe.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

On the subject of the Austerity boot MTO. We have 5 firm notes of intent to order (myself included) with another couple waiting on confirmation of sizes so hopefully we should be go in the next 2-3 days. I'll keep it open with the blessing of the confirmed until Monday then collect the necessary details to complete the order

    Just to update,

I emailed Pepe, and he said getting model 101198 in Olfe instead of Hiro is possible.

HOWEVER, it has to be made to Linea Maestro standards (260euro) PLUS the MTO charge (100euro). The total cost to me would be $365 not including shipping or any other customs charges. It would also be a very long wait time.

Should I just get the standard 101198 model in Hiro, or should I bite the bullet and pay the Pepe? Eseentially, is it really worth the extra money to get it LM just because I want a different last?

    Thanks again fellas!

What about asking if they will make the adelaide, which is already on the Olfe last and at LM quality, in brown without the MTO upcharge? It would come to roughly $310 with shipping. This is what I am considering doing.

Yes, do ask that and please return once you've done it. It'll open up a range of alternatives.

    Kind regards,
    Johan.

That's weird. I put in my first order about a month ago for the standard classic line dark brown calf double monks and dark brown suede chukkas and I received them just over a week later in DC.

It really depends whether they happen to have a pair already made in your size or if you order is catalyzing its production. If you received them that quickly, that meant you were ordering an in-stock item. As much as I wish I were, I am not.

Does anyone know how the Rui last (shell longwings) compares to the AE Last 5? I wear 8.5D in the AE and plan on ordering the UK7.5.

Sounds like we may have the start of a group MTO if Pepe insists on the 100 euro MTO upcharge.

I've read through the entire thread and I'm not trying to beat a dead horse, just want to make sure of something before I order.

I'm located in Toronto and am looking to get two pairs and Luisa informed me they ship via Fedex and UPS to Canada.

Does anyone know which would be cheaper or has anyone asked for the brokerage fee-inclusive shipping upgrade?
I know some people got dinged pretty badly for BROKERAGE fees, and would love to learn to avoid them and would even self-clear if someone knows how..
And it looks like duties are 18% on leather shoes, would HST be charged in addition to the 18%?

    Thanks a lot

^You are probably aware that it will be a customs import duty and tax charge for the import, that will be about 1/3 of the purchase and shipping charges combined (HST included)

PS Brokerage amounts to $10-15, not quite a bad ding compared to 18% + 13%
PPS there is no "self-clearing" term in the customs brokerage parlance; wait, maybe it is... if you go to Spain, buy the shoes in person, import them and fail to declare them to customs upon return, or use your duty free annual import quota to claim the cost

    thanks kwhunter
I've read about self-clearing things that shipped from the states to avoid paying the brokerage fees, for some reason I just assumed it would translate to any other country--you learn something new everyday

as a follow-up question, would it be cheaper to have them shipped to the states and brought over?
