Medium blue suit for an evening. Is this suitable for a semi-formal event?

Hello all,

I am attending a reception at my daughter's school and the invitation suggests that the event will be an evening dinner, cocktails and meeting with faculty and the dean. The safest choice for a suit would be a dark navy blue and white shirt and blue tie. However I have a mid-blue Zegna that is tailored and has a slight sheen. Would it be appropriate for an evening reception? I enclose a photo. The suit is actually a shade lighter under indoor lighting. Thanks for any advice.

Yes. Fabrics with a bit of sheen work especially well for evening events.

Actually, come to think of it, that's the one downside of shiny fabrics at night. If you think there will be photos taken, I would do a more matte fabric. I love the way a shiny suit fabric such as mohair catches the light at night, but it's less great when someone snaps a photo with the flash on. Consider what might happen that evening.
