How are Saphir's Medaille D'Or and the Pate de Luxe wax polishes different? Is one better than the other?

I'm looking to polish my new C&J shoes and would appreciate your input. Thanks!

Just ran across this in the archives, and I would be interested to know as well.

Bump!

I think the Medaille d'Or stuff is meant to be the better, more expensive range, but don't quote me on that...

MdO is better - more vax content in the polish

The MDO is richer, and a bit greasy. It's excellent to start a glaçage (how do you say it in english ?), emulsion of wax and water is easier to make. BUT some cobblers and bootmakers say it can foul the calf.

Pate de Luxe is one of the products within the Medaille d'Or line, so I don't really understand what any of the responses are based on.

I've used Medaille d'Or for some months now after first discovering it at BHV in Paris. Bought almost all the products. Superior to any products I've tried in the past. The Renovateur, especially, is a god-send. The Pate de Luxe seems slightly greasy at first only as it warms and liquifies (due to the emulsion of beeswax/other vegetal/animal waxes and the natural turpentine), but dried rather quickly and buffs to a very lustrous shine.

I find shoes treated with Medaille d'Or products (any of them, really, depending on the need) benefit from being left a night or two after polishing, as the leather continues to absorb the product and takes on a very rich finish.

I really like this stuff, disappointed to see they have turned greedy and now offering the 'new and improved version' which comes in a silly shaped 75ml jar rather than the nice shaped 100ml for the same damn price

I intentionally bought a couple of the old 100ml jars recently - I think I'm set for a while before I have to go back for the new 75ml ones.
