The last two good CM threads I can remember. Both from 2012.

In the last five years, discussions have been

- Drake's prices, Paul Staurt, and then some uber boring Italian line that sells quarter-zip sweaters
- Brooks Brothers is dying
- When is the next Brooks Brothers sale
- London Lounge prices
- Who makes the best cashmere sweater
- No one dresses up anymore
- MTO shoes

Anyway, realize I'm just being a grump but good lord this forum just beats on the same ass topics every day.

Actually this thread from 2016 was also really good

I wouldn't call it offensive, just head scratching, I could get RJ via Armoury Model 3 full canvassed (vs. half canvassed on this one) less than this (RTW anyway), and the Drakes one is going to be close to a full size run even once it hits sales.

I can't see magic from Drakes cut either (unless they have changed, when I tried 2 years ago I didn't go yea I want this), then I have to alter from the shoulder. It's like all the negative points I can think of not paying $1450 is basically there for me.

I posted like three times in the new watch thread, but as soon as discussions got into whether Rolex's prices are inflated, I dipped out. Even as a guy who rarely reads anything about watches, and really knows nothing about that world, that discussion already seems tired to me. "Are Rolex prices inflated?" "Look at how much steel Rolexes cost." "Are they worth it?" "Is Rolex the best?"

I don't know how people who actually follow watch discussions can engage in that discussion. I've read come across it three times and already want to launch myself into the sun.

You'd be surprised at how a small number of people always want to engage in that same discussion. Over and over and over again. Most watch aficionados have no interest in revisiting this at all.

I think the Armoury’s Model 3 is fantastic. Well worth the price and better than anything I tried on at Drake’s (admittedly it’s been a while). Only downside is I probably need to go MTO in RJ for increased length. Should I ever need tailoring again. Pretty sure what I have will last. No idea what “normal” work is going to look like over the next few years.

Yeah, watch discussions about Rolex always devolve into price but folks still discussed various models and favs which was interesting. I’ll be posting a shot of my new German knock-about dive watch when it arrives tomorrow.

Discussions about Drake’s also devolve into price which seems to indicate to me they have an issue that resonates with folks. <shrug>

I keep wondering about CM in general. Pretty sure I’ll be in a suit the rest of my career as govt changes like pond water. Fine with me! Casual Friday seems as relaxed as we will ever get.

Amazing that my posts have now sparked a discussion of Rolex prices AND Drake's prices, and whether people still dress up.

If you'd gotten raw selvedge denim in there it would have been a Grand Slam.

Why are you always surprised when people on a message board want to talk about/argue about/discuss things?

I'm not surprised that people want to discuss things. I'm just surprised that it's the same boring ass topics over and over and over again. It's like Ivy Style guys who have spent the last ten years talking about how Brooks Brothers is no longer as great as it once was. Like, at some point, does that not get boring for people? Do they not want to find new things to discuss?

Who are some new tailors that excite you? What are some styles and ways of dressing that you find interesting? Are there interesting craftspeople right now that interest you? Are there certain cultural touchpoints related to classic men's style that you find inspirational? Movies, cultural movements, etc?

Before the lockdown, I found I Sarti's tailoring proposition interesting, as Peter was working with them to create a more extended shoulder line and swelled chest cut. The prices are very competitive.

I think Hosoi in Paris is making some interesting handsewn leather goods.

George at BRIO is starting a new CM-adjacent casualwear line and an in-house bespoke tailoring system.

Any of these things would be more interesting to me than another discussion about well-trodden topics.

that white shirt thread is hilarious.
I am wearing a white shirt with a purple/lavender tie right now. I like the combo, it pops a bit off the white. A blue shirt would dull the tie I think.
