I was speaking from an American perspective.

I suppose its possible to pick up via osmosis, but to me it always reads as affectation (from Americans).

It doesn't even seem particularly affected. "My great noble excellent Fan" is a hoot, but it's also nonsense! :rotflmao:I think he may have a crush.

Always hated cheers, though.

Affectations used to bother me when I was younger, but as I got older I just let people be über-fans of “X” because it’s better than being a killjoy.

That doesn’t mean it doesn’t make me giggle every now and then.

I get this.

I think I've just seen "cheers" coupled with dudes who act like creeps a few too many times.

the one thing I never got used to while in London is when guys say me and my mates, understanding it's same as me and my bro but just sounds off in my head...
They couldn't just say "we"? Seems much simpler than "me and my bro" or "me and my mates".

I used to work with rugby guys from Australia, NZ, Ireland, South Africa, etc and everyone said “cheers” for “goodbye” or “thanks.” I don’t really think of it as a gentleman thing unless they raise a cocktail pinky up.

On the subject of pinkies, I have only seen this done in real life by two sorts: people with actual ties to the aristocracy, and humourists.

I wonder what sort of thought process convinces Australians this would be a good idea.

Hang on, are we talking about affected diction/habits, or just CM style in general? If it's the latter, I'd have to say that more than a few are interested in clothing for aesthetic reasons, not because they think themselves aristocrats. Those types are also less likely to be so rigid about the rules, a trait which is ironically shared with actual gentlemen.

My DMs are getting weird, guys.

If this is Christoph, he's DMd me a number of times. I'm not sure if it comes from owning a castle or if he just really digs that lifestyle, but that's pretty much his schtick. I'll admit it's fun every so often - I have a paisley velvet smoking jacket myself - but there are definitely those that live and breathe it.
