Seems like the default look for men hired by Trump is the (early Aughts?) bright blue suit and light brown shoes look. AE Strands on Walnut.

Hegseth and others sport this look. I was hoping it would fade away.

Speaking of which, found this pic of Nixon's cabinet.

Look at the gentleman on the left. Is that a double breasted notch fish-mouth lapel??

Looks like it. BTW, the 2nd guy from the right in the front row, in a grey suit and glasses I think is Elliott Richardson, the avatar for @dieworkwear.

Dark or grey suits look infinitely better with black shoes.
Mid gray suit and dark brown shoes seem to work well for me. The extremes are awful of course.

Yup. He was also someone with principles and a backbone. Not to get into politics, but he resigned in protest when he was asked to fire the special prosecutor looking into the Watergate scandal. His resignation was the beginning of the end for Nixon.

True, perhaps a dark brown or chocolate suede with a lighter grey flannel could work. The shades I'd avoid are anything lighter brown or ruddy in tone, as I think those look better with more country clothes. A pebble-grain, light walnut shoe with a town suit is like black oxfords and white socks with khakis: horrendous.

Hello MC hivemind. Can I get your feedback on the following fit? This is a Canali drop 6, which has a decent amount of shoulder padding. I have square shoulders, so I’m wary about exaggerating the effect, but this looks relatively balanced to my eye. But again, would appreciate an objective perspective.

TIA.

I believe that the "gentleman" in DB is Donald Rumsfeld, Counsellor to the President.
"He's a ruthless little bastard," according to Dick.
