I'd give it to Reagan over PG. Just used him as a contemporary example. I'm sure there are many others. Again, however, I'm not buying stock in Raffa or blowing P. Johnson for the glory of PG...

I have my whole name monogrammed in yellow on my trousers fly.

It's a tradition in my surroundings

Haha. C'mon, G. You can't pretend that there are no cultural affectations to getting dressed. Whether you agree or not is your prerogative. And I asked for it by posting. But still, to think NO ONE gets monograms or that they aren't more prevalent in certain circles is pretty absurd.

Just an FYI: Charles Tyrwhitt has started their midseason sale (shirts down to as low as $35, ties as low as $29). Still not the crazy sale I bought from them on about a month ago, but pretty good. If I wasn't a student I'd likely pull the trigger on a couple more things.

bb - just busting your chops. I've been on this board for 7 years so believe me the monogram discussion has come and gone many times. I still think they're silly, affected and actually project the wrong image, often very much at odds with the image the wearer thinks he's projecting - so I joke about it and I poke here and there. All in the hope that well dressed men stop slapping ugly initials on the front of their shirt or on the most visible part of their cuff.

No worries, all in good fun. I see where you're coming from. As I said I'm trying it out on this next batch. If they don't look as good as I imagined or my fervor dies, then I'll remove the option from my future shirts. Circle of life.

Do people who get monograms, especially on cuffs, think they're sending a signal other than that the wearer has an ego roughly the size of a small planet?

Maybe next we can discuss whether you should take your shoes off when you enter your or a friend's home, or whether you should wear undershirts?

Well that and what my initials are. The planet is also clearly larger than you think.
