• CALLING ON HOME SEWERS TO HELP HEALTHCARE WORKERS FIGHTING COVID-19

The lack of proper masks, gowns, and eyewear equipment is making it difficult for health workers to do their work fighting the novel coronavirus. In a recent New York Times article, medical workers said they were worried about how they can both fight the coronavirus without imperiling themselves, as well as their loved ones when they go back home.

If you are a home sewer, please consider helping my joining Hickey Freman Technical Vice President Jeffery Diduch in his effort to produce and deliver homemade gowns and masks to medical professionals in the greater Rochester, New York Area. Read about how you can help here

I've only ever had one Hermes tie. My sister was at dinner with the legendary dean of Georgetown's foreign service school, Peter Krogh (his style's worth googling). She complimented his tie, and he took it off right there and insisted she take it. She gave it to me, and I wore it during an internship on the hill. They were pretty common in DC in the 90s. Almost a uniform.

I have two Charvet knit ties that I bought at NM several years ago and have probably never worn. The colors are great, but they make too thick a knot imo. Should probably sell them. My favorite knit tie is a J Press one that's a silk/rayon blend and makes a nice, thin knot.

Watched the screen maker developing screens for a new scarf design. Learning how the scarves are made was eye opening. 3 year development timeline from design to production. All the dyes are made in house.
Every color used requires a screen. Think one scarf had 28 colors therefore 28 screens. Watched the entire process of a scarf being made, dyeing to finishing.

I feel like my Charvet woven silks are the most delicate ties I own. They’re extremely prone to snags and pulls.

That’s why I stopped wearing them. There was a notable change in the silk Charvet used in the 90’s.

You have to be a little more careful with some, not all, Charvet ties. But if you keep your nails trim (I am not saying you do not) and take a little extra care, you should be fine.

Or I could stop buying them and get rid of the ones that I already have.
