For some reason it popped into my head that I went through a short phase in college where I wore Ray Ban Wayfarers indoors and at night. A friend named RJ who always had something to say scoffed at me and made a huge stink. He always began sentences with "listen brother!" Anyway he began his sentence in this very same way and inquired about the look. I told him Lou Reed always looked cool with sunglasses on at night so I would do it too. "Listen brother! Lou Reed was on smack you can't pull that off!" It was true, I could not pull that off.
Speaking of sunglasses indoors, what’s with the comeback of tinted glasses, especially among the AARP crowd?

I wasn't even alive in 1983.

I have transitional lenses in my glasses. Some people hate them, but I love them. I use what's called ActiveX lenses, which get much darker than "normal" transitionals and do so much faster. The downside to this is a very, very slight tint when indoors. It isn't really noticeable to most people, but if you compare side by side actual clear lenses you can tell.

That said, I'm not the AARP crowd, yet.

Overcoat musings: Was looking at an overcoat from Paul Stuart and think it's actually a Pvt White VC coat. I didn't know PS used them. I ordered a similar coat from The Rake x Pvt White. It fit TTS in the shoulders and sleeves but was as baggy as a circus tent from the chest down. Here's a pic:

Anyway, I returned it as the fit was awful. It was marked down from $1100 to $550 if I remember correctly. Paul Stuart's version is $2k marked down to $780. If I'm right they are basically the same coat but with major price differences assuming the fabric is at the same level. Here are two versions from Paul Stuart.

I'm talking about tinted lenses like these:

Are these transitions?

Also apparently rimless glasses are coming back (yuck). Here's a combo of the two:

Hard to tell if they're transitions because it's just a still photo. That said, I like lightly tinted lenses and transitions. Lightly tinted lenses have that 70s sleaze, drugstore cowboy look. IMO it looks great in certain outfits. Kyle over at NMWA wears them really well

Hugh Grant's definitely aren't transitions. It's from The Gentlemen and he goes outside during the film. And it is definitely meant to project 70s sleaze, as you can probably tell from the costume design.

Colin Farrell also has some 70s inspired eyewear in that film:

A lot of great eyewear in this one. As I said in the movies thread, this is an early contender for #menswear film of the year.

I'd love to get some bolder frames, maybe put some transitions in them, but I can never find any that work with my face. I have boring-ass frames like Stephen Colbert, and Rx original aviator sunglasses (which I love).

jacques marie mage is really good for lightly tinted/ transition lenses. they basically have a Hollywood car culture sleaze vibe.

@conceptual 4est also consistently looks great in his moscots

I like these, and they might actually work for me. My wife will probably definitely hate them.

If I'm not mistaken, they're the Shtarker.

... and Moscot is advertising "custom made tints" on its homepage, so I can get tinted '70s sleaze glasses with my Rx.

I grabbed these Eyevan MacDougal's from 180 the Store in NYC. Only pair I have with lightly-tinted lenses. I kind of wish they were darker. Not so much for the aesthetics as for the actual light blocking.
