1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

I have a blue suit and a grey suit, and a purple suit. I don't wear one of them.

The last time I wore a tux was for my senior prom.

I know this is going to make me sound like a grump, but so many of the shoe threads on here feel so much less classic these days. Two-tone shoes, crazy colors, nutty lasts. All the EG guys talk about is two-toned zug Galways with dandy combos. The Vass thread doesn't even feel like it's about an Austro Hungarian company anymore (some of those makes look more Italian than Italian shoes). And everything is just buy buy buy, kop kop kop. It's like the Alden thread, but with fewer mentions of "uncle" and "nephew."

The only threads that still vaguely feel like they're about classic style are the bespoke tailoring threads.

Anyway, I know this is old, treaded ground.

I think the bespoke shoe threads have always been mostly about doing the exotic or unusual stuff. I can only think of maybe 2 or 3 bespoke black oxfords ever being posted.

I think you're right about the bespoke shoe threads. Nowadays though, many of the bespoke make-ups feel more rooted in classic style than the MTOs.

I actually thought it has been getting a little better. Sometimes there are discussions -- whole threads, even -- about topics other than how great an affiliate's merch is. For a while, it just seemed like endless sponsored/appreciation threads.

That said, I don't visit much anymore, so I may not be that well-informed.

With respect to bespoke shoe threads, it doesn't shock me that the more exotic stuff is prevalent. Think about it. If I get a bespoke suit made, people should hopefully notice a difference in how it fits and looks on me compared with an off the rack suit, even a high end off the rack suit. So there are potentially major aesthetic advantages of going bespoke with suits and tailored jackets. Fabric selection and customization are certainly motivations for bespoke, but fit is a major one.

I suppose fit is a motivation for bespoke shoes, but it's going to be comparatively a lot harder to tell from pictures how great the fit of your shoes is. A lot more of the motivation is probably customization, so you see the fun exotic stuff.

It's cyclic...eventually, they will run out of animals and colors they haven't used and go back to the classics. Then they will get bored with those...and the cycle continues....

I haven't visited the Alden thread in a long time, that "uncle/nephew" routine is extremely tiresome and annoying.
