Matching sweater and footwear with my 501s

I have a pair of 501s in a colour called "body rinse" but am having trouble getting them to match with casual footwear. Due to the colour or fit (or both) they seem to look silly if I try them with something like Converse. They only seem to match dark coloured fairly smart shoes. Also they look too baggy round the lower leg when I am not wearing fairly bulky shoes. Is this in my mind or are some jeans like this? The jeans are in the photo. If I looked in the mirror and seen this looking back I would think it looked all wrong.

Also, I bought a sweater I really liked today from TJ Maxx, but I got it home only to be told by relatives that it looks on the small side when worn with my 501s. Not because the length is wrong, or because the sleeves aren't the right length, but because it is not "loose enough" at the sides (in other words it hugs my body a little bit). Am I a complete fashion victim or are my relatives wrong to expect loose sweaters? Like I say the jeans are loose so they probably make the sweater look even more tight on the upper half of my body.

Step 1. Hem jeans
Step 2. Tight around body is good or bad depending on your shape
Step 3. Don't drink the koolaid

those wouldn't look half bad with some white and dirtied (a bit) chucks imo

I'd also pair them with Clarks - beige, green, or some canvass shoes, etc. Actually, you have so many options!

Id say that pair of 501s are a size or two small judging from how they look around the top area...
Either way, cuffing them to a reasonable length is a good start.

That isn't my photo, I just got it from the web to show the jeans.

Regarding the shape of the jeans they are meant to be narrower at the thigh so I don't think they are too small.

I take all the shoe advice on board, and will try to get a photo of the sweater. Many thanks.

Dude, just find a camera, take a picture of you in your sweater/jeans/kicks, introduce yourself to Photobucket and post a freakin' picture of yourself in the WAYWT tread...then you'll find out what's right or wrong with what you're wearing. With any luck (or not) you'll even get a Rye rating. The worst thing that could happen is that you get your efeelings hurt and with enough SF those can be reprogrammed (upgraded).

why did you buy rinsed 501's

-1, why pay extra for rinsed levis, when STFs are 30$ tops EVERYWHERE!

if you can return for sized down (like 2) 501's or 514's or 511's.... 'em DO IT.

if not cuff them, or hem them up.

Robbie, I didn't know 501s differed in size if that is what you are saying.

Anywhere here are some photos. I'm curious to know if the sweater looks OK, or on the small size. Sorry about the photos. The quality is not very good. The sweater is dark brown. I tried on some Clarks shoes in brown and they looked great, but brown sweater and shoes seems a bit much for some reason.

Those look a bit wide / sloppy below the calf. Either get them hemmed and wear with boots or try cuffing them imo

Might be easier to go out and buy another pair of 501s in a shorter inseam? I think the sweater length looks fine, as do the shoes, but the jeans do get sloppy down there. Save em for work jeans and go get yrself a better fitting pair.

Thanks guys. I think the 34 inside leg just felt wrong when I tried it. The ones in the photo are a 36 inside leg, but I will take your advice and get them seen to. I will go for another pair of jeans apart from 501s I think.

When I tried these on with boots they didn't look right for some reason. I don't know why. But the boots could have been too bulky.

I am still interested to know if people think the sweater is on the small side as that is why I posted the photos originally?

Not exactly everywhere, but I find mine in the Levis store. Never in dept stores, though.
