matching Sport coat&trousers

ok, so we all know: don't match sport coats with trousers, it will look like a suit from the fourth dimension. But what if all you match is the color. I.e. you wear a navy corduroy SC with navy wool trousers?

It will look just as bad. Contrast in color is paramount in most circumstances.

Navy corduroy SC would look great with grey flannel pants.

It looks really bad when people can tell. No one will say anything of course, but don't do it. Especially if your jacket has metal buttons.
