Matching For Proms

If my date is wearing a sky blue dress and I am planning on going just plain tux(black vest, white shirt, black jacket and pants, with a black bow tie), can I accent it with a sky blue pocket silk? Or would I have to go with a sky blue bow tie too?

Keep the matching to a minimum if you do it at all. A light blue pocket square is a far more subtle way to match if you decide to go that route, though there is no need to match your date. You are the frame to her art; your job is to look good and let her look her best. Besides, it's called "black tie" for a very good reason.
