    1. What hat to wear when you're outdoors at the taxi stand at the black tie event?

    2. What kind of overcoat to wear when you're outside of a white tie event? Some people wear some kind of a cape or crock? That's too magician - ish I suppose?

    3. Do people wear an overcoat at an outdoor daytime formal event that requires a morning coat / morning dress? If so what kind of overcoat?

    4. Do people wear an overcoat at an outdoor daytime semi - formal event that requires a stroller? If so what kind of overcoat? Thank you for your time and have a nice day ;-)

    1. You don't have to wear a hat but I would say either a top hat or if you don't want to look like the great Trappedini, a Homburg.

    2. I think William Holden wore an alpaca polo coat over his white tie rig in Sunset Boukevard. Otherwise a dark (midnight blue, charcoal, herringbone grey) overcoat would work.

    3. Not qualified to answer here as I've never worn a morning rig. Came close at a wedding once but it was in the summer so no outerwear needed.

    4. Seasonal coat (raincoat in spring / autumn, overcoat in winter) would be appropriate I reckon.

I meant to write cloak but autocorrect has changed it to crock.

    1. Black Homburg; toppers are for tailcoats.
    2. I'd recommend a black chesterfield overcoat, along the lines of (http://www.crombie.co.uk/mens/black-fly-fronted-overcoat.html):

    3. The same chesterfield as above in black or charcoal grey.
    4. Again the same.

You do realize that overcoats (and hats) are meant to be handed in once you do arrive at whatever event you've dressed for, right?

Thanks. Is it true that that ChesterField can be worn at both daytime and nighttime as daywear and eveningwear?

Yes, though black outerwear isn't really for a daytime event..
