Matching an odd vest to a navy pinstripe suit?

Just wondering if anyone out there has done this, and if you did, what sort of vest did you use?

I've got a RLBL navy pinstripe here that is just begging to be coupled with a vest - it's got IMO the perfect cut for it. For all of you who are not familiar with the label, it has a relatively low button stance coupled with a high gorge and moderately narrow lapels - just great for showing off a vest!

Anyone? I foresee using this combination strictly for pleasure, not work-related events.

I feel this can be utilized when dressed casually, even if your dressing up casually. A gray plaid vest or a tweed would work best to me and your trouser option would be jeans of course for a more laid back look and for more dressy situations that can still be casual,a darker shade of gray

What's your opinion on a black odd waistcoat with a charcoal suit? I've ordered one recently but I did read somewhere on here that an odd waistcoat should never be black. Is this correct? Will I be mistaken for a waiter and laughed out of the building for wearing it?

I doubt if you would be laughed out of the building although small children and animals might flee in abject horror. The well dressed will merely feel sorry for you.

For you see, when you do something like this it looks like you tried to make a suit out of cast offs which smacks of poverty of the mind. I can think of one formal time when a waistcoat should be black but I think with a grey suit you want to look a little lighter and brighter.

If it has to be black, I would go for a black cardigan. An black odd vest would just look... well... odd. (and not in a good way!!)

Well, the theme of the event is 'black and white'. I'm already stretching that with a dark grey suit (I couldn't bring myself to buy a black one that I would never wear again).

Several people are wearing black tie, but I didn't have time to have a dinner suit made for myself. On the other end of the scale, some people were considering wearing black jeans and white t-shirt, until a more recent email clarified the formality and that jeans were not allowed.

I take it a light grey waistcoat would've been better? But against other people in only black and white I thought that may stand out as deviating from the theme a bit too much. For obvious reasons anything other than black, white or grey would've been out of the question.

I did consider getting a 3-piece but I wanted to order the suit from TaT and they unfortunately don't do 3-pieces...

Assuming you're white, bring a black date.
