This is perhaps a silly question... but where can I get decent matches? I was working on a construction site recently, and someone found a box of matches from the 60s. These were nice, strike anywhere matches, with full heavy real-wood stems. I smoke occasionally, and I usually use matches, and the differences are really striking. Every know and then something highlights the mass-consumerism of todays products, and this is one. I know it's kind of silly, to seek quality in something that literally is a single use item, but they difference in quality is astounding.

Redbird matches are good. Available at Walmart, according to a quick google.

I had an overly geeky/serious post. I needed to lighten it up somewhat.

As for redbird, I use those occasionally, but still nowhere near what these old matches are like. Redbirds are cheap, and tend to break.

are you talking about a box of kitchen matches, or oneof the small boxes that is basically a nice variation of the standard 'pack' of matches. I seem to recall that our Boy Scout kitchens always had Ohio Blue Tips
