If you ever browse Kickstarter, you know that production delays are legion with any product, but there is a knowledge/expectation gap among the average consumer who is confused and frustrated as to why such a thing would ever happen. In normal consumer goods, these production delays are invisible to the consumer, because they do not see the downstream product until it is on store shelves. The difference between a successful and unsuccessful crowd-funded campaign is the ones that maintain consistent communication with their backers and assuage their concerns after the (inevitable) production delay. Those that tank are the ones that resort to radio silence when things go wrong. So far I would rate this project a 5 out of 10 on the communication front.

So UPS wants to make sure people hate me as much as possible..... The ties were shipped from Arzano on the 10th but UPS has the package as "expedited" versus "express" (the claim that my tie makers set the package up that way but that is not the case) which means instead of Friday/Monday I will now get the ties Wed/Thurs

I am as frustrated as those that are awaiting the ties and I will turn them around to massdrop in one day but we have to wait a few more days, apologies again.

I see that it has not been to Russia yet. That has happened to some of my packages (I live in Moscow, IDAHO).

It's a tie. We'll all survive.

I'm not subscribed to this GMTO, but I just think it's bad business when a vendor fumbles PR when the inevitable problem occurs. When the initial hiccup occurred, people were frustrated that Massdrop sent a generic and opaque email instead of being upfront about it. This happens on almost every crowd-funded project -- somehow no one has gotten the memo that it's better own up to any delays than to obfuscate.

Lol!

I don't know, people seemed pretty forgiving and the communications been fine. Not sure there's a battle to fight, here.

Agreed.

Ed's been perfectly upfront about everything and has kept everyone updated on a timely basis. Unless there's been stuff going on behind the scenes that's not represented in this thread, the entire process has been civil and collegial on the parts of both the business and the customers.

Cheers,

Wait, you didn't buy a tie, but you've read through this thread, kept updated, and formally give the communications for this project a 5 of 10?

Precisely!

I don't disagree that it's been civil, but it seems like there is a thing that happens where someone checks in, says "Uh, any updates?" then the vendors check in and give an update. That's fine, but it seems to be that being proactive rather than reactive is the key to a good project. I'm not directing those remarks at this project in particular, but in general.

I do think the communication for this project is trending upward, maybe 7/10 territory when all is said and done.

Check the dates and times. I posted on this thread asking if there was any news. Ed responded in less than an hour. Lots of well-regarded businesses don't even answer their e-mail that fast.

It's been fine, we all know stuff happens when stuff is happening. They won't be arriving any faster if Ed had flown to the factory himself. When you have a suit made they get done when they get done, this is just the same. I would rather have a quality product arrive when it does vs a useless one show up quickly.
