I would. Seems like a nice, comfortable little car convenient for getting around in. Not to mention the looks you'll get from people who want to know what kind of car it is.

For myself, no it would not be practical. I would be too nervous behind the wheel, paranoid that I would get even the smallest rock chip in the paint.

It would have to be in original condition with the dings and pitted spokes.
Some nicely oxidized paint would be nice.
And slightly musty leather too.
Then you wouldn't care as much.
It would be a more enjoyable ride.

Sure, I knew a guy who had one. He loved it but the carburators needed adjusting pretty regularly. Coming from a guy who drove a 40yearold car as a daily driver for 5 years I say go for it.

Having driven vintage cars as daily drivers, I say no, it is not practical. Driving new cars that are fuel efficient and easily repaired is practical.

But, LK, since when do you care about being practical in such stylistic matters?

Why not? Just asking the question suggests you are connected to the passion and disconnected from the reason.

The most heady sound I recall was the song of a Maserati Bora tooling down West End Avenue in Manhattan. At the stop light I was able to hear the note of the engine, admire the incredibly detailed knock off wheels and learn from the driver that this classic is his daily driver. I wish I had a daily driver like that!

That story reminds me of a friend of my brother's who had a BMW M1 that he drove fairly regularly. He once went to a restaurant with valet parking, and when the valet excitedly asked what kind of car it was, the guy replied, "The kind of car you don't valet park."

I dream of getting a new Quattroprte for a daily driver, but the expense of this proposition in Tokyo is prohibitive.

I'd go so far to say that no old car is practical as as daily driver. However, most people aren't practical or bend their own rules of practicality in order to justify a purchase.

I'd be interested in getting one as good ones aren't particularly expensive--certainly about the price of a new BMW .

I have known of numerous people who had only '50s Porsches as their only cars; and there were also people who had vintage Ferrari racers as their drivers.
