Marin Bikes: which ones?

I want to start commuting by bike once I move. Ride will be about 5 miles, with around 4 on a boardwalk along the ocean, pretty flat. I like Marin bikes but... which one?

They have "city", "urban" and "commuter". I really can't tell any differences. Help out a noob...

just by the quick look i took
Urban would be for heavy in city riding and if your used to mountain bikes
City seems more for relaxed commute that doesn't involve much going up and off sidewalks

didn't see the commuter you were talking about but thats what i can tell about those 2 at least. not an expert by any means though

The City bike is pretty much outfitted like the commuter except the commuter has splash gaurds for bad weather.

Urban looks like a bike with an identity problem. Doesn't know whether it wants to be a road or off road bike and really not equiped properly to do either. Kinda like a modern SUV.

If you plan to ride in bad weather you should get the commuter. Also like the straight tubes design.

I bought a marin from STP using one of the coupons for the additional % off. Excellent bike for the $$$. Mountain geometry but streetish tires.

The cortina is the one

It is a cross bike, so will fit larger wheels. You can use it as a road bike for the sport with a 700x23c set, or take it off road to trails with a set of 700x30c or 700x35c knobbly tires, or you can setup a set of commuting tyres with punture protection like Schwalbe Marathons 700x28c or 700x35c you could also have 2 or 3 set of wheels and like this swap them easily according to what you want to do with the bike. 1 bike that would do the 3 functions. now, if you need suspension to do downhill then look elsewhere.
