Manufacturing Leather Goods?

A friend and I have been discussing setting up a small shop to manufacture leather bags...mostly carryalls, and perhaps some wallets/keychains/etc

I use my overnight bags quite often and have some ideas about how to improve on the designs. I don't have knowledge about manufacturing any of this but would like to get some information about how one would go about setting up a small shop from anyone here who is in this business.

If we setup shop ourselves: the type of employees I would need to source initially, space requirements, and any other information you have would be appreciated.

Or alternatively should we source a manufacturer and work with them on our designs? If so, what small design shops are best at this sort of thing?

Thanks in advance.

As long as he doesn't fall below Coutts' cut-off I'm sure he'll be fine.
