There was a recent post about tailor Manuel Martinez in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with an indication that he has his clothes sewn in New York. I have heard good things about Martinez but nothing too specific. Can anybody tell me whether he offers true bespoke and, if so, his approximate price range?

I think that was my post, but I was wrong about the location of the sewing, he uses a shop in Canada. I've used him for a jacket and pants so far and I have been really pleased with the results and have enjoyed working with him. Is it true bespoke? Not sure what that means. I consider it true bespoke as I chose fabrics, and did two fittings for my jacket. Manuel takes the measurements, cuts the pattern, and sews the garment for the basted fitting, then has it finished in a workshop he owns. I've used Rubinacci, Manuel, and Mina Adamo of Napoli su Misura, and have been happy with all three. Manuel is in the middle of the other two, pricewise, with jackets starting around $2K on up, depending on fabric selection. I could be off on that however, best thing to do is call to be sure. The biggest advantage for me in using Manuel is his close proximity. I can't stress how important that has been in getting the fit right in that I'm able to see him far more regularly than I'm able to go to NYC or Naples. Happy to answer any more questions, just let me know what you're interested in.

Thanks. That's very helpful. I'm in the New Orleans area quite often and may give him a try.

I've used a Savile Row tailor who had all his trousers made by an expat in Spain, so I guess a Canadian workshop isn't that strange.

He travels, so check with him, he might come to you depending on where you live. I've been lucky in that I really like all three tailors that I've used and had really positive experiences with all three. I think you'll find Manuel offers a great combination of offering a guiding hand while still giving you what you want. He's worked with me on several iterations of trousers to the point where he is delivering exactly what I want, which is different from what his local customer base typically asks for. Good luck, and report back if you take the plunge.

Bump as I am thinking about using Mr. Martinez's services soon, and there seems to be little on him aside from what CoolPapaBoze has said.
