My girl and some her friends are going out to Mantra in Boston tonight - anyone know anything about this place? I've never been to it because the few times I walked by I saw a huge line.

Is it worth it? The only thing I know for sure is the $20 cover.

Been there once or twice. Draws a euro-crowd that is a bit older (and perhaps borderline greasy). If you've been to Umbria, it's a similar crowd. Decor is eclectic - bathrooms are particularly cool. Urinals and sinks look exactly the same.

I would say it is a good place to bring a girl, but probably not a great place to meet girls. I've had success in impressing a new girl, anyway.

Sometimes they have private parties in the basement that you can sneak into (last time I went there were strippers passing out bottles of champagne with sparklers in the corks). There's also a jail area with all sorts of hanging chains - kinda cool. But yes, definitely cheesy when compared to NY, LA, or LON.

Lame. Very, very, lame. Wear a shiny striped shirt, black pants, and your best square toed shoes. Slick back that hair. Affect an accent - Jersey. Boston girls dress up like they are from LA circa 1997 (at least, that was what was cool back in 2007, last time I was there.) Lots of black. Some glitter.

On the other hand, the drinks are decent, and with enough, you'll forget about the crowd.

Rule of thumb: the bigger the club is in Boston, the more it sucks. If there's a line in front of any club, it's an automatic no no for me. If you're going to go anyway, wear disposable clothes, because you'll get spilled on and stepped on all night. If you want to see what the popular Boston club scene looks like, look here: http://www.leclub.ws/PhotoAlbum.do?f...boston&seq=295. You can't see the latest pictures unless you sign up, but you get the idea. The **** is always the same.

If you want to get on his good side, buy him anything stretchy in a size small. The most elastane in it, the better. Something like an Underarmor top, but with "A|X Armani Exchange" on the chest, would be ideal for his style. Also, he loves to be called "bro". And the "trigger" is his favorite hand gesture.

All the negative comments are true...but they are generally true around here. Boston can have cool bars and lounges, but the clubbier scene is at at low point.

Your girls will still have a good time, if only for entertainment cheese value.

Man that is awful. Why is it that Boston (straight, gay, culture, shopping, whatever) is so pathetic? I live in Western Mass., no one here ever mentions going there any more. People if they go anywhere head for New York. I noticed recently they even stopped the bus service to Boston.
