+1. >100 is only a few times a year for me. Oh, and no rascal.

My last "pricey" wine was a 2001 Giscours that I got for $50 something. Very, very nice. Could have used five more years but I was willing to risk it.

+3 ... except when i'm able to rely on the kindness of strangers... fortunately, when you can cook, there are sometimes other people who are willing to bring great wine.

-1. We generally have on average one $100+ bottle per week. That's mostly laziness and lack of initiative in putting together a good cellar.

I'm having a walk-in put into our new place, though, so hope we can be more disciplined and get things for the longer run.

most people in my like of work buy BMW's or Panerai watches and then have $3,500 loft apartments with Jesus as a doorman. I like my wine, food, and the occasional Solito jacket. And while I don't have a doorman, my building super is indeed named Jesus.

When I lived in Manhattan, all the guys who worked in my building were Egyptian. [vox]It was a very swanky building, designed by Emory Roth[/vox].

see guiz, I'll just have to consume with Vox.

Oh, and if you need any cellar and/or housing designs, let me know.

Alright, that was funny. I should use the word "swanky" more, and this is an excellent reminder.

For whites I like dry reislings and gruner veltliner.

Generally I spend $10-20 for whites and red and about $50 for champagne. So I'm not sure if our difference in opinion is related to differences in price point.

Speaking of California sparkling wine, The Roederer Anderson Valley Brut is a nice value at around $20. I like it a lot better that the cheap $50 French champagnes like Veuve.

+1 on Roederer. In fact, I love their entire portfolio, very impressive across the board.

Hmmm. Mayhap I should have picked up a few bottles, they have the same in this week's Vintages release. But I was too busy loading up on Saint Siffrein, Chateauneuf-du-pape.

I had an $11 Cotes de Rhone tonight, and it was fabulous.
