On the cheap... Should I take LIRR or E train to Jamaica to AirTrain or is there any other option? I remember taking a bus a few years ago.

there is a bus that leaves from just outside of Grand Central that goes to JFK. I think it's $15, this is what I usually do.

^ +1 NY Airport Service. Dirty busses and signs plastered all over demanding tips (they make announcements for tips too, in case you miss the signs) but it does run on schedule and gets you there cheap.

Taxi comes out to about $57 so if you split with 3 friends you save money.

Okay, the bus sounds easy and cheap enough. The subway is cheaper, but I think it'll be a hassle with my luggage.

I'd take a taxi if friends were involved, but this is a solo trip.

the bus stops at all the terminals, this to me is worth the few bucks.

one time, December 2008, a snowstorm was about to hit and so everybody was rushing home a little early from the city and traffic was awful. I was flying that night and the bus driver cut through a bunch of neighborhoods and got to JFK in (I believe) less than 30 minutes. I tipped heavy.

I like taking the LIRR to Jamaica, then Airtrain, because it is independent of traffic. I was once stuck on the bus to JFK for 2 hrs.

Good point... I'm leaving from Philly at 1pm for an 8pm international flight. I should get into NYC by 3, which should leave me plenty of time.
