I'm a bit concerned about the extent in which the alterations need to be done to my shirts and the cost.

I have two JAB shirts I got for ~$50 each. I'm an 18 neck and 34 arm, which puts me in their big and tall category (I typically wear Brooks Brothers slim fits). That being said, the two shirts are VERY billowy, but I like them aside from this.

Where should I go to get the shirt taken in and how much can I expect to pay? Do you think they can even take it in enough to make it worth my while ... or should I just return the shirts?

The best option would be to take the garments to one of the better tailors identified in the thread you found and ask. Any of the tailors would be more than happy to discuss pricing and to tell you whether the alterations you seek are achievable.
