I'm going to be in Manhattan on August 15-17 for the very first trip not related to business. I'm recently begun completely revamping my wardrobe and would like to fill it out with some decent suit bargains. Anywhere other than Century 21 that I would probably have some luck in the dog days of August?

Barneys warehouse sale usually starts in mid-August and lasts thru Labor Day long weekend. But the best bargain doesn't kick in until the second or final week.

I believe Woody Allen once said "The big difference between T&A for money and T&A for free is that T&A for money costs less."

You have it all mixed up and get it all wrong.

BB semi-annual sale starts on Thursday. SAs will hold stuff for three days, so get cracking.

What are the salels usually like - better than the 25% off you can always get?

Also - anyone know when Saks knocks ups the additional 33% ticketed prices off to 40% or more?

    What always?

Sale will be 25% off everything, plus - I think - an additional 15% until 1PM on Thursday.

    T&A final reduction:

    All dress shirts $100
    Sport shirts $80
    Ties $40
    Pants $75
    Suits $650
    Cashmere suits $950

Also at 680Mad 30-60% off. Pretty decent number of models are on sale, including several sought after ones like Harborough, Vintage 2004, Brookland, City and Jermyn II. I scored a pair of Brookland and Marston. Belt straps are $164.

varvatos in soho currently has "sale" signs up - and has a handful of selected items at 30% off. So a nice $495 thin cashmere (?) sweater is currently $350, where it should always be.

    Report from Woodbury Common:

Brunello Cucinelli: 30-40% off outlet price.

Bottega Veneta: 50% off outlet price on men's pieces and 40% off on luggages.

Zegna: suits are mostly Gritti junk but there's at least couple of Couture for $1200 after all the discounts are applied.

    Loro Piana: 15% off.

Ralph Lauren: There're still some PL and BL in extreme sizes and some tux but PL and BL suits are pretty much picked clean from the current feeding frenzy.
