I need a new pair of frames and was thinking about the style Malcolm wore. Does anyone know who makes a really high quality pair of frames in this style?

Try shuron - http://www.shuron.com/escapades.htm I just got off the phone ordering a pair of their ronwinne, with bi-focals. They are very easy to work with. I'll let you know in a week how the glasses turn out.

I think Cutler and Gross may offer something similar.

My next pair of glasses will definitely be in this style. Really like the whole 50's CIA-guy vibe they have.

Yep, Shuron made the original aluminum frames. I used my grandfather's old Shurons for years until I passed them on to my brother.

The browline frame he's seen wearing is the American Optical 'Sirmont' frame:

Pretty hard to find one these days, they're pretty much sold out on most online vintage frame stores, but this Japanese company seems to be reproducing the basic design, including the wing-shield on the temple arms:

Good pull id'ing the frames from the wing shield.

For anyone who's not looking for a perfect replica of Malcom's frames, Shuron's frames are completely authentic (same design for 70 years) and easily available direct from the company. They are made as well or better than any frames I've had including high end American and Japanese frames and are available in multiple size options. Price is great at around $125 or so. My only nit to pick with Shuron is their tortoise acetate is not particularly attractive.

I wear those. They're Shurons, as people have said. I think I paid something like $100? Contact them, give them your credit card info, and they'll send you 4-5 pairs of glasses. You just keep the one you want and send back the rest. It's pretty easy since they give you the box to ship it back in and the pre-paid UPS postage sticker. I just dumped it in some UPS box.

I like the glasses a lot, but just FYI, about a year ago, I started noticing some weird - I don't know what to call it - like "clouding" on the black frames. I don't know what caused it? I somewhat suspect it's because I bring them into the bathroom when I shower and the steam affects it? Or at least it seems to get better when I remember not to do that. Who knows.

I haven't found a real fix for it, but I apply (this is super janky solution) Burts Bees hand salve to it and it seems to solve it for a few days. Just just of rub a small amount in and it's fine for a bit.

I contacted Shuron about this and they said they didn't know what the prob was, but that they would be willing to replace my glasses for something like $60. Seemed kind of a bad buy though since I assume the problem would just arise again after two years or so.

Other than that, I really like the style. If you're big ballin, shot callin though, check out Osawa Bekko. Real tortiseshell glasses (though they may be illegal in the US)

I have a pair of Ronsirs myself and they're top notch but they're not the nicest looking pair on my roundish face. I know Dita has the 'Statesman' which is more angular and would probably suit me better but they're freaking expensive! Anybody know of other reputable framemakers that makes squarish browline frames?

I recall seeing a Kio Yamato browline frame that was more angular. It was also somewhat less traditional.
