Hey I have narrow shoulders and I'm just wondering if you guys know any tips to make your shoulders look broader besides suits and layering. Cheers

Buy jackets with shoulder pads in them. Or do lots of shoulder press at the gym. Do both and you'll have some broad lookin' shoulders.

Start lifting weights.

I guess you could always pad your shoulders, but personally I think it looks a bit silly. Might look good if you make it very subtle though.

If you have good head-to-shoulder proportion, then suits with slim waist will help.

Apart from working out at the gym (I don't think that's the type of flippant answer you were after) you should consider having your shirts tailored to a taper at the waist. This is assuming of course that your waist is smaller than your chest. This will not work if you are an extreme ecto or endomorph. I hope this helps.

I don't find it too flippant advice, really - shoulder presses and side raises --> bigger deltoids...

I would keep my waist trim. That sounds obvious but by keeping trim tailored pants, and trim tailored jackets and shirts at the waist you will look much more broad shouldered.

Of course excellent posture is key. The combination of the tailoring and posture will do more than any weight lifting IMHO.

I agree. There is a place for resistance training, but if the persons genetics aren't right, there will not be a noticeble gain in muscle size - tone yes, size probably not.

Cheers....

He seems to want tips not related to wearing jackets.

One such tip is to wear narrower shirt collars. Of course how feasible that is depends on details such as head size. Collar fastening helps, too. A horizontal stripe on the chest or color-blocking (with the lighter color at the top) also can have a broadening effect. Don't forget epaulets.

im not sure if this is popular advice here,

but i dont think broader shoulders look is the only 'in' look anymore.

i embrace the slim look and there are alot of stylish guys doing the slim look who got way narrow shoulders but they pull of their gear to a point where it plays well with them, i mean, not hiding the fact they got narrow shoulders, but playing it up like, im slim and or skinny and that's me and im chic.

Swimming. Seriously. Squares up the shoulders and straightens posture without the bulky hunched-shoulder look that you get at the gym from concentrating too much on the pec-deck. Healthier than most alternatives, too.
