How much does this usually cost? I have some old pants from BB that I never wear anymore because they are too baggy around the thigh. I like the fabric though, so trying to guage whether it would be worth the price, or just get new pants elsehwere. Anyone have experience with this? Can a good tailor do a good job at a reaosnable price?

I've had it done on one pair of pants before but only because I got the suit dirt cheap. I'm in NYC and Leung's Tailor on the UES did it for $20 or $25 per leg IIRC. I think that's on the cheap end for the city. Looks like Wilfred's does it for $30, which I imagine is per pant leg. Full re-cut is $80, and I'm not exactly sure what the difference is. One thing to consider is that if the pants are pleated, you can't taper/slim them too much without the pleats opening up and looking weird, or so I'm told.

Why would they charge per leg? Who would get a single pant leg narrowed?

I usually pay $20-30 for a range of slimming options with the legs.

More like $35-40 to have the waist taken in, front and back rise shortened, and legs slimmed.

A full recut (completely seperate the pant pieces and cut them like MTM) is way way more - it's basically doing MTM where you provide the fabric...

This is an option but I think you would have to do a full recut to remove pleats. Every tailor I've been to has advised against this.

I've always wondered this myself. Doesn't make much sense.

Thanks, this is what I suspected was involved.
